Boy Craftiness with No Sewing

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We are still recuperating at my house. I came down with a horrible cold over the weekend and am slowly feeling human again. I have done no sewing at all. It was nice to take a break, but I have been itching to dive back in again. This little gift for my nephew was the extent of my craftiness this week. I have seen little sand boxes at some of the specialty toy shops so I thought I would just put one together myself.

Mitch cut up some wood he had in the garage for logs.

Miller helped arrange everything.

My niece modeled the apron that I made for her. It's not the best photo, but you get the idea.

Monkey Mania

Happy Crafty Tuesday everyone. This last week has been a blur. We had a really busy weekend so I did not have as much time to sew. I also had to turn down a few last minute wholesale orders, which was hard but necessary for sanity sake. There are just so many hours in the day, right?
I did finally finish the monkeys. Yeah!! They even sat really still for me so that I could get their picture. Here's the free tutorial if anyone else wants to make one or five. These are going to be given as gifts. She also makes a sweet boy monkey pattern that she is selling in her etsy shop. Too cute.

I am going to miss have them around.

I also finished the other purse.

I can't believe that Christmas is only a few days away. Is everyone ready?

I'm Alive

I took last Friday off so that I could work on Christmas gifts. Of course, I didn't get as much accomplished as I had hoped, but I made some good progress. I did finish the gifts for my nieces. Don't look Jenn & Gina if you want to be surprised. I did leave a little bit to the imagination. I will post more photos after Christmas.

Then there are monkeys....and more monkeys. I just have to put on the finishing touches. I will post more photos of these guys too when I finish them up.

I finished this purse up last night. I have one more that I plan to make tonight.

I am still trying to fulfill wholesale orders too. I have been horrible about taking photos. There's only so many hours in the day, right?

Speaking of coffee cozies I received some pretty cool news yesterday. Faith Hill bought 9 of my coffee cozies at the Shoppes at Main. She took every single one that was there. (Sorry FB friends I know that you already heard the news...guess I am just a little bit excited!) Makes me wonder who she's going to give them to...hmmmm?

Tis The Season

I am crazy busy right now. I know most people are this time of year. So I will not be around too much the next couple of weeks, but I did want to show some goodies from last week.

I did not take the time to photograph the gazillion coffee cozies I made last week, but here are a few of my favorites.

I picked up another wholesale gig. She is carrying some of my gadget pouches and beer cozies along with coffee cozies. It was fun to make something besides coffee cozies. This makes the 4th shop locally that is carrying my goodies. How cool is that?

I managed to make a skirt for Harper too. She did wear it on Saturday, but I did not get any good photos.

If I can find a few minutes, I plan to post some kits up in my Etsy shop. I cut out all the pieces to make these ornaments and have not been able to find time to put them together. So I would hate for them to go to waste. Hopefully someone will want them.

Red Bird Ornament Kit

As of right now I have 52 coffee cozies to make, 5 gadget pouches, and 6 beer cozies plus Christmas presents. I am not sure why I do this to myself.

Happy Crafty Tuesday everyone.

Take A Picture of Me

On Saturday we just finished putting up the Christmas tree and took a break to eat some lunch. I had the camera on the table because I had been taking photos of the kids while we were decorating. The lighting was pretty good for being inside so I started snapping some shots. They each kept asking me to take pictures of them. They like to see themselves on the screen after the photo is taken.

Felty Flowers

Every week has to have a new obsession, right? This week it was finding a way to use up all my little bits and pieces after I cut up a sweater. I cut up several sweaters this weekend for coffee sleeves. Usually I throw the remnants in a pile or store them away for another day, but this weekend I decided to go ahead and make something out of them. So felt flower brooches were born.

Recycled Gift Idea- T-Shirt Scarf Tutorial

On Saturday when I should have been doing about a million other things, I decided to make scarves. Don't ask why. It was 70 degrees outside. Sometimes you just have to go with it.
I made one for my daughter first out of some knit fabric I had in my stash. I wanted something lightweight, easy, and very washable. I cut the flowers out of an old t-shirt and leggings of my daughters that were stained. I stitched around the whole in the middle of the flowers to attach them to the scarf.

I know the frowny face is just pitiful, huh?

Then I made my son a scarf using some fleece also from my stash. He even helped me cut the fringe. Sorry I forgot to take photos.

Then I decided I needed a scarf too. I wanted a lightweight one like Harper's, but couldn't find anything in my stash that I thought would work. So I went digging through my pile of old clothes that have been set aside for the perfect project. I found a t-shirt. It was a nice color and large enough for a scarf. So I decided I would make my scarf using this t-shirt. I even remembered to take photos so that I could share with you.

Here's the t-shirt.

Old Lonely T-Shirt

Here's the t-shirt inside. Sorry the lighting wasn't very good.

Put the t-shirt on your cutting surface

Fold the t-shirt in half and make a cut 8 inches from the bottom hem. I decided to keep the bottom hem on, but you can always cut it off. Gumby also stopped by to help me with my scarf. He agrees that 8 inches is a good width.

Measure 8 inches from the bottom

Go ahead and make the cut. Sorry about that Gumby.

Cut the t-shirt using scissor or a rotary cutter

Trim the side seam. Now you have one long piece that is the length of the front and back of the t-shirt.

Trim the side seam

Cut another piece 8 inches from the bottom just like you did the first piece.

Cut another piece 8 inches from the bottom

Cut with caution. Rotary cutters are sharp. Ouch.

Rotary cutters are sharp

Trim the side seam of the second piece. Now you have two pieces that are the exact same size.

Trim off the side seam

Put the pieces right sides together and sew one short end together.

Place the two pieces right sides together and sew
Like so.

Here it is all sewn up
Trim it up if you need to.
Trim it up
Now you have one very long scarf. When you stretch it out a little bit the knit fabric rolls at the edges. At least that is what mine did. I left the edges raw.
Now it's time to embellish if that tickles your fancy.
I cut several different sizes of circles from another t-shirt.
Embellish the scarf
Ahhh.....pretty t-shirt circles......

Ahhh...pretty t-shirt circles
I layered them together to form flowers and pinned them to the scarf.

Pin the flowers on

Close-up of flowers
I just stitched a line through the smallest circle to attach it to the scarf.

Sew the flowers on
Ta-da. All done.
I am not sure how I like the flowers. I think I will probably go back and just have them on one side and add a couple more, but you get the idea. It would look great with no embellishment too.

Put the scarf on and enjoy.

I used the same method for the flowers on this headband and think it looks better with more flowers. I stitched the lines in different directions to make the flowers curl in different directions. Let me know if anyone else decides to make one. I would love to see it.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving.
