Juice Beauty Review and Giveaway

JB_logo_D_rgb[1]

***THIS GIVEAWY IS NOW CLOSED***
One of my biggest challenges in my going green journey has been finding skincare products that are good for my body and the environment that actually work.  I have tried so many different products that left me very disappointed.  So when I was given the opportunity to review Juice Beauty's products, I was so excited.

Juice Beauty products are made with a minimum of 85% and up to 98% USDA certified organic content. Instead of the typical water-base that most natural skincare brands use (which just dilutes all the active ingredients), Juice Beauty products have an organic fruit juice base that is naturally loaded with antioxidants, essential vitamins and phytonutrients.
Juice Beauty EcoChic Values

1. CLINICALLY VALIDATED RESULTS: efficacy achieved through cutting edge organic technology.
2. AUTHENTICALLY ORGANIC: target a standard for all Juice Beauty products to fall within
80 – 98% total organic content. Meet California Organic Products Act minimum of 70% total organic content (excluding water) by using a certified organic base & ingredients.
3. POWERFUL ACTION WITHOUT: Stay on the cutting edge of purity by excluding Parabens, petroleum, butylene and propylene glycol, PEG, sodium lauryl sulfates, pesticides, phthalates, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances. Continual preservative improvement.
4. QUALITY AROMAS: Achieved from organic & natural essential oils (not synthetic fragrance).
5. SUPPORT our USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC FARMERS: Stay close to our suppliers.
6. BUY LOCAL: Buy the majority of our ingredients locally from the West Coast.
7. SUSTAINABLE & RECYCLED: Use only sustainably sourced and/or recycled paper for all supplies, focus on recycled components & recycle again.
8. SOLAR POWER & GLUTEN FREE LABS: Manufacture the majority of our products using Solar Power and all manufacturing done in Gluten Free Labs.
9. NO ANIMAL TESTING: Conduct no animal testing.
10. GIVE BACK. Juice Beauty currently donates a percentage of all profits to the following charities: San Francisco Breast Cancer Fund; The Organic Center, Teens Turning Green; Conservation International and the documentary-Miss Representation.

I received the Green Apple Age Defying Kit.  I immediately loved all of the products.  My skin felt so soft and I could feel the skin around my eyes tightening after using the eye treatment.  I was so impressed that I ordered more of the eye treatment plus some other products to try. I want to try the tinted moisturizer with SPF next.  All of the products I have used smell wonderful too.

So do you want a chance to win a kit to try?  To enter for a chance to win this kit all you have to do is sign up for Juice Beauty's newsletter, then leave a comment that you signed up.  For bonus entries follow them on facebook or twitter.  I will pick a winner April 4th.

Juice Beauty is also offering all of my readers a special offer.  You will receive a FREE Organic Facial Rejuvenating Mask (a value of $32) plus FREE Shipping with any order of $35 when you enter the code NEWGREENMAMA at checkout. The promo will be good until 4.14. This product is perfect for all skin types to get skin back in shape after winter!

Aloha Bottle Caps Giveaway

A few months ago I was contacted by the owner of Aloha Bottle Caps.  She saw this post that I had written about making recycled bottle cap necklaces.  The big box of bottle caps must have caught her eye because she asked if I had any bottle caps that I would be willing to send to her.  We have been saving bottle caps for years now, so we have A LOT of bottle caps.  We communicated back and forth and came to an agreement.  I would send her bottle caps in exchange she would send me some of her products.

Aloha Bottle Caps uses recycled bottle caps to make earrings, necklaces, and key chains.  They are based out of Hawaii.  If you have a chance, take a look around the website.  Sarah, the owner, is one talented lady.

Last week I received my care package in the mail.  She sent me so much stuff.  I would love to share some of the goodies with you.  All you have to do is leave a comment by Friday October 14th and you are entered in the giveaway.  There will be 4 winners.

Since I have done nothing crafty this week, I thought I would do a little giveaway. Remember this magazine I showed you several weeks ago? Would you like the chance to win your very own copy?

Miller didn't want to miss out on the action so he wanted me to take a picture of them together. These photos cracked me up.

Barefoot Books Giveaway- Earth Tales

Earth Tales

I was first introduced to Barefoot Books last June when I hosted a giveaway for the book Whole World. I now have several books from Barefoot Books and love them all. They are all beautifully illustrated. They focus on different cultures and promote diversity. So I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to host another giveaway.

In honor of Earth Day, Barefoot Books is partnering with environmental organization Eco-Libris to plant trees for every copy of the new title Earth Tales sold this April.

Eco-Libris is a green business that enables people to do something reasonable, affordable yet with an impact: plant one tree for every book they read. By working with individuals and publishers to plant trees in developing countries, Eco-Libris makes sure that each tree is planted where it provides significant value for both the environment and the local communities. To learn more about Eco-Libris, visit their site: http://www.ecolibris.net/ .

When we received our copy of Earth Tales in the mail, we immediately grabbed the paint and completed the first activity. Like all the other Barefoot Books that we own, this book is beautifully illustrated and I love all the activites included. This will definitely be one of those books that my kids will be able to read for many years. The stories are a little complex for my four year old right now, but she loved doing the activities and looking at all the magnificent artwork.

Here is a bit more about Earth Tales:

In this beautiful anthology of folktales, young readers learn how different cultures around the world live in harmony with the rhythms and patterns of nature. Discover how to tread lightly on our precious Earth by following the easy eco-tips and trying out some of the fun and creative activities that accompany each story. The perfect gift for any eco-conscious child!

Here is a link to the Earth Tales press release!

I have one copy of Earth Tales to give to one lucky reader. Here's what you need to do.

1. Tell me what is your favorite Barefoot Book?
2. Tell me what you are doing to conserve?
3. Post about this giveaway!

Please include this information in one comment. There will be one entry per person.

The giveaway will end next Wednesday March 30, 2009. I will pick a winner that evening and post the results on March 31st.

Presents, Tea, and a Giveaway

DSC_0733-edited

Here is a photo of my nice wrapping job for my brother's birthday present. Although not the prettiest present, everything I used was something that I recycled. Birthday season is quickly approaching and I am really trying to "green" my gift giving. Tucked inside the cereal box is an organic t-shirt and a stainless steel water bottle that we found at Dick's Sporting Goods. I made the bow from newspaper and finished it off with a Blue Moon bottle cap in the middle, since he is turning 21. He is into working out and nutrition so I thought the Total cereal box was fitting. I am working on a post about green birthday gift ideas so be looking for that in the next week or so.

Since I have been cutting back on my coffee intake, I have become totally addicted to tea. La Mama Naturale mentioned Mighty Leaf Tea on her blog awhile back and it looked so good. The last time I was at Whole Foods I noticed they had several different kinds so I decided to try the Orange Dulce. The tea is a little more expensive, but it is really good. I can't wait to try another variety. Plus the tea pouches are 100% biodegradeable and they do not use any glue or staples. They also use whole tea leaves. If you like tea, you really should try Mighty Leaf.

Since we are talking tea, I should mention that Celestial Seasonings is also taking strides to help the environment. For every box of tea you buy before March 31, Celestial Seasonings will sponsor the planting of trees all around the world—up to one million trees in all. You can also plant a tree in their virtual forest. For each virtual tree planted, Celestial Seasonings will sponsor the planting of one real tree, up to 50,000 more. Click here to plant a tree.

Anyone want a chance to win one of my coffee cozies? Mommy-Momo is hosting a giveaway for one of my coffee sleeves so head on over and leave a comment for a chance to win. The winner gets a coffee sleeve of their choice.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Up and Running and a Giveaway

Well, it's official. My shop is up and running. I still have some things to finish and some items that I need to list, but at least the bulk of it is done. I will be adding to the store as I finish projects.

Since my shop is now open and this is my 200th post, I am going to do a giveaway. I am going to give away a custom photo scrabble tile or glass tile pendant or magnet (your choice) to the lucky winner. To enter all you have to do is leave a comment. If you want to increase your chances, post a little something on your blog letting people know about my shop and I will count it as 5 entries. The dealine for entry is Tuesday November 25th.

The winner will just have to e-mail me a digital photo of their choice. It doesn't have to be of your child either. See that pretty butterfly one below.

Thanks everyone for the nice and supportive comments that you have left for me.

Stubby Pencil Studio

smencils

I actually won the Stubby Pencil Studio giveaway over at Nature Mom's. Can you believe it? After reading Nature Mom's blog on Stubby Pencil Studio, I confess I ordered some stuff. My thinking of course was I will never win the giveaway. I am a sucker for art supplies and I had ventured to the site a couple of times browsing the selection. I ordered some gourmet scented colored smencils and some watercolor crayons. I received my package within a couple of days and there were even a few little extra goodies in my box. You can't beat that.

Then I received the e-mail telling me I won the giveaway. Yippee!!! Lucky me, huh? Well, again I received my package in a couple of days. You can tell when you open the package that lots of love and care goes into each one. It was loaded with stuff. Just look at this picture.

DSC_0090

You can't really see them in the photo, but along the edges are 3 packages of recycled cards that can be colored (like the one in the first picture). So cute. The kids immediately ripped open the softdough and demanded snakes. They love when I roll the dough out to make snakes. It is a good thing it is all natural because my son decided to eat some. They had to open every single smencil and smell it. Those things smell super yummy! We now have the regular smencils and the colored smencils. They are made from 100% recycled newspaper. Thanks to Nature Mom and Stubby Pencil Studio I now have a supply of cards for all kinds of occasions. Plus, plenty of supplies to keep my little ones busy for hours. If you decide to order something from them, I promise you will not be disappointed.

Barefoot Book Giveaway- Last Chance

Ok folks, this is your last chance. My Barefoot Books giveaway ends tomorrow (June 10th). If you have not already entered, all you have to do is leave a comment here telling me your all time favorite children's book. The Whole World book comes with a sing-along CD, it is printed on forest friendly paper, and it includes some tips on how to live green. It is a great way to inspire your kids to be good to our environment. The illustrations are vivid and colorful. When I read (well actually I sang) the book to my daugther, I felt like I was transported back to my own childhood. What a cute book!! I will announce the winner on Wednesday June 11th.

Stubby Pencil Studio Giveaway

I am always a sucker for a good giveaway. Eventhough, I would really like to win this one for myself. I do believe in Karma so I am spreading the love. Check out this giveaway from Stubby Pencil Studio over at Nature Mom's Blog.

Barefoot Books Giveaway

As I have mentioned before, I love to read. Since reading has always been such an important part of my life, it is a passion I want to share with my children. We read to our kids every night as part of their bedtime routine. Even though there are some nights I wish that our routine was shorter and we just tucked them in bed with a kiss, I do cherish this alone time with them. Besides, before bed is really the only time they will sit still long enough to read books.

Over the last four years, we have accumulated a pretty decent size library of books. We also frequent the local library to check books out. My son is at the age where he wants to read the same books over and over again. Well, actually he just wants to look at pictures of "big trucks". My daughter, on the other hand, enjoys a different book every night. She asks questions about everything and really absorbs the story.

I find myself constantly looking for appropriate books that teach her a lesson or that just have a good story to tell. Our latest favorite is Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon from Barefoot Books. Since I am a vegetarian, my daughter finds the story very interesting. The first time I read it to her she was immediately captivated by the artwork and the unique plot. I have to admit I thought the book would be a little over her head, but I was wrong. She loves it. Any book that teaches a lesson and applies to our every day life is a winner to me.

Barefoot Books publishes children's books and CDs that are educational and beautifully illustrated. They pride themselves in providing books that speak to all walks of life. The themes of the books are meant to open their minds and also promote discussion of these important topics. In addition, they have taken great strides to "Go Green". Click here to read the press release.

All of this being said, I am proud to announce that I have a very exciting giveaway. I have a copy of Whole World, which was featured on Oprah's O List back in February 2008, to give to one of you. Here's what you need to do to qualify for the giveaway. Enter a comment telling me your all time favorite children's book. If you also include a book that you have read or would like to read from Barefoot Books, you will get an extra entry. Be sure to include your e-mail address (in the following format to avoid spam newgreenmama at gmail dot com)so that I can notify you if you are a winner. It never hurts to link back to me and spread the love. The contest will end June 10th. I will randomly choose a winner.

Barefoot Books is currently having a huge summer sale. Check it out.
