Harper was not being very cooperative so hopefully I will get some photos of her tonight.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Theme Thursday - Create

Today's theme over at Stacy's is Create. I made a couple of attempts to "create" a few things in photoshop. I wasn't really feeling it this week, but this is what you get.

I was going for a more abstract watercolor painting look, but just couldn't get it to look like I wanted it to look.

I thought it would be funny to put my son's face in the reflection of my husband's glasses.

What I have been creating are these cute little shoes made from an old felted wool sweater. I am happy with the way they turned out. Who knows if they will actually fit or stay on?

DSC_0986

I also created this little banner. It was thrown together, but shows you I have been day dreaming about opening up an Etsy shop. What do you think of the name? If I actually followed through with it, I would sell items made from reclaimed materials. I have tons of ideas running around in my mind. Now I just need to find the time to make some stuff.

Six Random Things About Me

Jennifer over at Little Green Secrets tagged me to participate in the meme 6 Random Things About Me. I thought I would play along. I am sure you are all busting at the seams to know just a little more about me, right. Before we get to that, how about a couple of pictures. Why not? This post is all about ME. Ok, mostly about me.

I am not sure what is up with Miller. I don't remember him being upset. I like to think he was jealous, but I don't think that was the case.

Ok back to the meme.

Here are the rules:
1. Link to the person or persons who tagged you. 2. Post the rules on your blog. 3. Write six random things about yourself. 4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them. 5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog 6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Here are 6 Random Things About Me:

1. I have been wearing the same pair of tennis shoes for over 4 years. I think I might be due for a new pair soon.

2. The Indigo Girls are my all time favorite musical group. Eventhough I haven't really listened to them in years.

3. I am currently reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I am almost finished with the 4th book. Man, these books are good.

4. The Office is my favorite TV show.

5. I work with my mom, dad, and brother.

6. I am totally addicted to coffee.

So there you have it. I am tagging six lucky ladies.

Best Shot Mondays- Up Close

I have been having some camera issues lately. I usually shoot in "P" mode when I am just chasing the kids around. If I am trying to shoot something specifically, I will change between A, S, and M depending on the situation. Lately all of my shots have been way overexposed. Now that I think about it I can't remember when it started, but it seems like it has been a week or so. I searched through all the settings and tinkered with it forever. I just couldn't figure it out. I thought maybe I was going crazy and it was just me. I finally had to shoot full manual and constantly change my settings to get a decent shot. I guess it was good practice. I finally figured out the problem and fixed it, thank goodness. Here are a few of my shots that actually came out decently. I was in a close up type of mood.

I am choosing this one as my best shot. I love how her wispy bangs are in her eyes, her far off look, and of course the crusty marshmallow on her chin.

Theme Thursday- All Smiles

This week's theme is Storyteller. Sometimes when you look at a photo or a series of photos, there is no need for words. The photos tell the story. That's how I feel about these photos. When you put two 2 year olds together with a pretend feather duster, who knows what might happen. In this case, you get lots of smiles. I will let the photos tell the rest of the story.

Miller & Josie

Everytime I look at these photos, I can't help but smile. Maybe because I was sitting right there snapping pictures of these two interacting. Or maybe because I love both of them so much. Have I mentioned I love having our families around?

I have a problem

I have a very serious problem. Since making Molly and Joey, I can't stop browsing Etsy and other crafty blogs. My latest sewing obsession has been these dolls by Bit of Whimsy. For some reason, I want to make everything that I see. So as a result, my daughter has a new doll and my niece received a goat for her birthday. Any excuse to make something. I have thoughts of Christmas presents spinning in my head. There are so many cute things to make and so little time. Sigh.

DSC_0497

Here's Polly (my daughter named her) and Gertie (that's my name for the goat).

DSC_0498
I embroidered a little felt heart on the skirt and a "j" on the goat's bottom for the birthday girl. The photo of the goat's bottom turned out a little weird so I deleted it. You will have to use your imagination.

DSC_0611
Here Polly sporting her satin lined minky shrug and leg warmers. It was a little chilly out. Harper requested a shrug for herself, but that might be a little too ambitious. Last week I moved all my sewing stuff to the garage and set up a make shift studio so now I can sew when the kids go to bed, which is really nice. Like I said I have a problem. I guess there are worse problems to have, right?

Best Shot Monday-Melting My Heart

Today Tracey invites us to share moments that melted us this week. What melts my heart is seeing my children finally love and appreciate each other (at least some of the time). They find comfort in each other.

DSC_0686_edited-1

Good thing Harper was there to help Miller out of the leaves. You know since I was too busy taking pictures.

DSC_0637_edited-1_filtered

I think they may just like each other.

DSC_0643_edited-1_filtered

We are so fortunate that we live close to our family. It means so much to me that my children will know and be close to their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I mean look at those two above. That's my niece all snuggled up to Miller. I have many, many, more of these two being cute so come back Thursday to see more.

Don't forget to stop by Mother May I for more heart melting shots.

Our Annual Trip To Gentry's Farm

We made our annual trip to Gentry's Farm last weekend. The kids love going on the hayride, seeing the animals, hiking through the corn maze and picking out pumpkins. So it is only appropriate that this week's theme for Theme Thursday is Fall. Eventhough it is still too stinkin' hot here, going to Gentry's Farm means that Fall is here.

DSC_0347

One day I will get a picture of them all looking at the camera. It is one of my goals in life.

DSC_0446

Pumpkin pop, anyone? For some reason, Miller only wanted to pick pumpkins that were a little green. I think he touched every green pumpkin in the patch. Maybe he felt sorry for them.

DSC_0452

Pickin' pumpkins is hard work.

The sun was really bright, which made taking photos a little difficult. By the time we were ready to leave the kids were hot and worn out.

If you want to gaze at some more fall photos, head on over to Stacy's.

Meet Molly & Joey

Last week Felt-o-rama left a comment on my Felt Food post. After reading the comment, I clicked over to the blog. This free pattern was on her front page and I knew I had to try it. I had to purchase brown corduroy and the furry fabric, but everything else is recycled. I used some of Harper's old tights that were stained for the socks. I also used an old shirt and bike shorts for the body and sleeves. I definitely think that made it more special to her. For the other one I used a felted wool sweater for the legs, and scraps from two of my brother's old shirts.

Meet Molly and Joey.

DSC_0493

Please don't pay attention to the fact that Molly's arms are a little wonky. I worked out most of the kinks with Joey.

Here focus on her cute little shoes instead.

DSC_0495

And I had to include the shot of Molly getting fresh with Joey. I did not notice the wandering arm until I uploaded the shots to the computer.

DSC_0488

Miller had to get in the shot. You know since I did not want for him to be in the shot. He actually said, "Mom, take my picture." Aaahhhh. What do you do? I am sure next time I want to take his picture he will be cooperative. Yeah right, I know.

DSC_0486

Eventhough it took me FOREVER to finish these little boogers. I had a great time figuring it all out.

Best Shot Monday- Bathtime

Today Tracey writes about Ordinary Miracles. I have to be honest. After looking through the hundreds of photos that I took this weekend nothing seemed to fit. Feeling tired and a little uninspired bath time rolled around. Harper and Miller were splashing around and decided to lie down next to each other in the bath tub. I ran for the camera because they looked so darn cute. I love capturing every day events of my little miracles.

Pink & Purple Potatoes

potatoes

My husband and I had a date night last Saturday night. My parents took the kids for the night and we headed to Bosco's to sample some beer and eat some good food. We didn't have any real plans other than dinner. After finishing up dinner, we decided to go ahead and get our grocery shopping out of the way. Yes, you heard it right folks. We went to the grocery store on our night with no kids. As we were browsing through the produce section, I saw these amazing potatoes. It was an assorted pack of pink, purple, and fingerling potatoes. They immediately went into the cart. I mean purple potatoes. You have to try them at least once, right?

Until I diced them up to roast, I had no idea the intensity of the color permeated the whole potato. In my mind it was just the skin that was various colors. The first thing I did, well after cutting a few pieces of rosemary, was to grab my camera. They just looked too pretty. I did not really know what to do with them so I tossed them in olive oil, chopped up the rosemary, and roasted them in the oven for awhile. I was pleasantly surprised. The purple ones were especially tender. I have about half of them left so next week I am thinking about using them in a frittata. Who knew potatoes could be so exciting?

Flare Flare Everywhere

It's Thursday already and this week's theme is sunshine.

Since I posted several flare shots here, I had all intentions of capturing sunshine in a different light this week. Tuesday morning I woke up early and took a walk. The mornings are darker now and while I was walking I witnessed a magnificent sunrise. By the time I made it home to fetch my camera, the opportunity was gone. The last couple of days have been rainy so no sunshine to photograph. So flare is what you get. I can't seem to escape it.
