American Girl Doll Soccer Uniform

Harper's cousin, who also has the exact same American girl doll, recently got a soccer uniform for her doll. So Harper has been asking me to make her one for her doll, which is kind of funny since Harper only played soccer for one season two years ago. On Saturday I cleaned out her drawers and used the opportunity to transform her old uniform into one for her doll. I was afraid she wouldn't go for cutting up her old uniform, but she was all for it. I think it turned out pretty cute. Of course as soon as I was finished with the outfit, she wanted to know where the shin guards were.

I have been using Simplicity 4786 as the starting point for most of the doll clothes that I have made in case anyone is interested.

It felt good to do a little sewing even if it was just a doll outfit.

Happy Crafty Tuesday everyone.

52 Weeks of Me- Week 13

This week's theme is overexposed. I was hoping that the overexposure of the shot would hide the fact that I have absolutely no makeup on. Maybe I should have overexposed it a little bit more. I debated doing some touch ups in photoshop, but opted to keep it SOOC.

Teaching Kids to Sew

Last week I was in charge of leading Harper's Daisy Scout Troop in a sewing project using recycled materials. We wanted to show the girls how to be resourceful as well as practicing some hand sewing. I don't have any photos of the girls in action because I was running around crazy, but the project was super simple.

I pre-cut pieces of felted wool sweaters. I had each girl choose a small piece and a large piece.

Then I had them place the pieces wrong sides facing.

Then they whip stitched around the edges. Sewed on a button and cut a little buttonhole on the flap. I have a whole stash of buttons so the girls had fun picking out buttons.

I had Harper do a practice one for me to make sure the project wouldn't take too long. Then she did another one during her meeting. All of the girls were proud of their little wallets. As a reward I gave them some chocolate coins to put in their wallets.

I was very relieved when the project was finished. I really had no idea how it would all pan out, but I am calling it a success.

52 Weeks of Me- Week 12

This week we tackled textures. This one really stumped me. I was taking macro shots of some of the beautiful flowers outside, so I had my camera out already. So I snapped a few shots of my flip flops while I lounged on the deck. The only problem is the lens I had on my camera was a 70-300 mm. I had no choice, but to get a really close-up of my unmanicured feet. Then I realized the flip flops have a really nice texture, so I decided to go with it. My best friend gave me these flip flops almost 7 years ago. They are perfectly molded to my feet. Plus the fact that the weather is nice enough to wear flip flops makes me very, very happy.

Team-Up Thursday- Music

This week Cara and I are playing along with the group. The theme this week is music. I had envisioned Harper barefoot in the grass playing her little guitar maybe focusing on her fingers strumming the guitar. Then all of the sudden it was Wednesday night. Harper was in the bath tub and it was dark outside. Time always gets away from me.

I wonder what Cara's been listening to on her ipod shuffle?

Lesson Learned

DSC_0025-edited
{This photo has nothing to do with the post. Just can't post without a photo.}

I was sick all last week. I did not go to work all week. I did not do much of anything except eat, sleep and watch lots of TV. I had a fever for 4 days along with aches, chills, and chest congestion. I can't ever remember being this sick for this long. It was nasty and I only have myself to blame. I am going to go ahead and admit it. I did not get a flu shot. My kids and husband got flu shots, but not me. I don't really have a good excuse. I think deep down I thought I was invincible. I take my vitamin D every day along with my other vitamins. I drink my green smoothie every day. I am healthy. Nothing can bring me down, right? Well, I sure was humbled.

I don't know for sure that I had the flu because I did not go to the doctor and get tested, but I feel pretty confident that I did. It's 9 days later and I am finally feeling back to normal. Yuck.

Lesson Learned: I am obviously not invincible. I will get a flu shot next year.

52 Weeks of me- Week 10 & 11

I was sick last weekend and all last week, so I am playing catch up. Although I did not get my photo taken last weekend, this is what it would have looked like. This was my view for the better part of the week.

This week's theme is silhouette.

Team-Up Thursday- Everyday Beauty

This week's theme for Team-Up Thursday is Everyday Beauty. Cara really nailed it this week. What a beautiful shot and the lighting is absolutely perfect. Make sure to visit her blog to hear the story behind the photo.
I am not sure why, but I immediately thought about flowers when the theme was announced. Since we have some sprouting up in the year now, I thought it was a perfect opportunity to snap a few shots. I feel like Spring is right around the corner, which is a beautiful thing.

Ottoman Makeover

I know I am really stretching it these days with my Crafty Tuesday posts. I have not been in the mood to sew at all, so I am just going with it. I did manage to recover this ottoman this weekend though. It's been on my to do list for a couple of years now. I added some foam and batting and used some fabric I already had on hand. I debated on painting the wood, but decided to keep it as is for now.

Maybe next week I will be inspired to sew something.
Crafty Tuesday everyone.
