One of Those Days
When she woke up, Mitch went next door and asked if we could come over for a swim. They said "yes" and Mitch said we were going to wait for the sun to come back out. Well, the sun didn't come back out and it started to thunderstorm. Eventually it stopped raining and Mitch set up the little baby pool for them , which seemed to appease them.
So I decided to start dinner. I went to the grocery store earlier and we were planning on grilling out. I checked the fridge and could not find the shrimp and fish any where. I checked the fridge in the garage, but no fish. I checked the freezer....no fish. I checked the back on the van and there was still one bag of groceries left in the van. Of course, it contained all the frozen and cold stuff I had purchased earlier. AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH! We had to throw everything away. It had been sitting in my very hot van for at least 7 hours.
Mitch headed to the grocery store to replace the spoiled food. I started some rice and put corn on the grill. He got home and turned on the other burners on the grill. He came inside and made kebabs with the shrimp along with some pineapple and mushrooms. When he opened the grill to cook the kebabs, it wasn't hot. Of course, we had used all the propane. So he headed back to the store to get more propane. At this point all we could do was laugh and drink a beer.
I am choosing the above shot as my best shot because the photo seemed to fit well with the story and he is just too darn cute.

Overheard Conversations and Water Fun Photos
Let me set the scene for you. We are all in the kitchen. A bug runs across the floor. Miller alerts us and Mitch kills the bug.
Harper: What kind of bug is that?
Mitch: I don't know.
Harper: Is it a roach?
Mitch: No. It's some sort of crazy jumping bug.
Harper: Is it a millipede?
Mitch: No. It's not a millipede.
Miller: Maybe it is a harperpede. (Miller thought Harper was poking fun at him by calling the bug a millipede. I was quite impressed with his quick wit.)
Harper exits the room to grab a book so she can show Miller that there really is a bug called a millipede and she is not making fun of him. She returns with the book and the two of them go into the living room to look at the book. Mitch and I are still in the kitchen.
Harper: Look Miller here is a millipede. It has 139 legs. And this is a grasshopper. It has 3 hind legs so it can jump real high.
Oh, those kids. What did we do for entertainment before them?
Now here are some fun water photos from last weekend. Yes, Miller was pouring water over his own head. It's amazing how much fun they had with a baby pool full of water and 2 cups.
I know Miller looks emaciated in this photo, but I promise I feed the boy and he does eat!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Funny Faces
We were sitting in the grass enjoying the beautiful weather. The lighting was perfect. Her eyes were glowing. She was still a little snuggly from just waking up from her nap. Her hair was a little messy. I couldn't get enough of her. Rarely do I grab my camera and capture the moment exactly as I remembered it. Especially when photographing the kids. These photos come pretty close for me. I could have stared at her and taken photos of her for hours.
Harper has her preschool graduation tonight, which means we are one step closer to kindergarten. Yikes. I am still in denial. I am not ready for her to go to kindergarten.

Sheltered
Harper had soccer practice last night. During one of the water breaks, all the girls ran over to where the parents were sitting and grabbed their drinks. One of her teammates asked her mother if she could have a sip of her coke. The mother handed the little girl the coke. Harper promptly asked her what she was drinking. The girl looked at her a little bewildered. Then Harper asked her, "Is that root beer or sprite?" The girl finally answered, "No, it's coke." Harper responded, "Oh, my mom doesn't let me drink coke."
I just smiled and let it go as Harper ran back to continue practice. At first I was a little embarrassed because I just imagined that the other mothers were thinking I was super strict or a health nut. The truth is that my husband and I neither one drink coke. We do allow her to have soda if we are out at a restaurant, but avoid the caffeinated ones. The only time she has asked me for a coke was at a birthday party where other girls were drinking coke. I said no on this occassion because it was 7:30 pm on a school night.
The more I thought about it though the more I realized that I was kind of proud that she didn't know what the girl was drinking. It made me realize that she might be a little sheltered or naive, but hey she is only 4 (almost 5). Eventhough, I would prefer her to avoid soft drinks all together. I know that is probably not going to happen. I am just being realistic. All I can do is educate her and provide her with healthier alternatives so when she is old enough to make her own decisions hopefully she will make good ones. In the meantime, I think I will keep on sheltering her as long as I can.

Cock a Doodle Doo
I try to check out several new books each week from the library so that the kids have new books to read. I usually search Amazon or remember recommendations from podcasts. I am not sure how I happened upon In the Night Kitchen. I believe it was from ratings on Amazon. Anyway, I reserved it at the library and did not think much of it. You will imagine my surprise when I read it to my daughter that night.
I am an open person and am not easily offended, so I took the book in stride. I actually thought it was kind of funny. But it did leave me wondering. Maybe I should read the book before I sit down to read it to my kids. My daughter of course immediately asked to go back to the "wee wee" pages so she could get another look. Oh boy. Does anyone else think this is a little strange?

The Funny Things They Say and Do
I thought a post summarizing some of the cute/strange/funny things happening at my house was in order. So here you go.
Star Wars according to my daughter:
- The gold shiny robot is C-creepio.
- The green cute guy is Kody.
- She is to be referred to as Princess Leia at all times. Please do not call her by her real name.
- Your Highness means Queen or Princess. So and I quote, "Daddy, when I ask for cereal in the morning, you can say yes your highness."
- The freezing of Hans Solo has caused her way too much angst.
- She is a Jedi knight and will fight any bad guys that may enter our house. Since I do not have my own light saber, she will protect me from evil. (Boy, that is a relief.)
- She has slept in her bathing suit the last 2 nights, which has nothing to do with Star Wars. It's just plain strange. I guess it is still better than the previous 2 nights, in which she wore no clothes at all.
With a 2 year old pretty much everything they say and do is funny, but here are some that come to mind.
- The other day he was eating a cereal bar and when I looked back at him (we were in the car), it was gone. I asked him what happened to his bar. He said "A bad guy took it". Hmmm. I can see a theme here.
- His favorite movie right now is Annie.
- He refers to his hair as "haircut". I have hair. He has a haircut. Makes sense, right?
- When he gets out of the bath, he has to have his hair spiked up or put into a mohawk.
- He has to dilute his own apple juice (from the fridge's water dispenser) and attempt to put the top on his sippy cup. If these exact steps are not followed, it is not pretty folks.
- Every ball is a soccer ball and if he wants to play ball he says, "I want to play soccer ball."
- While watching Star Wars, he constantly asks, "Where's Princess Leia?" or "What's that thingy?"
I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
