Around the Yard

I did do a little bit of sewing this week. I made a sundress for Harper, but it still isn't quite right. So no pictures of it yet. I also started quilting Harper's quilt, but that is going to be a LONG, tedious process. I am taking my time and trying not to rush through it. So instead of craftiness today you get to see photos of the yard.

The cicadas are finally here. We have been anticipating them and they finally started surfacing this weekend.

I will try really hard to have something crafty to show next week.

52 Weeks of Me- Week 19

This week's theme is ground level. I did have several shots that were in focus, but for some reason I liked this one the best.

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day. My kids and husband spoiled me with breakfast in bed and tons of sweet cards. The kids had been anticipating Mother's Day all week. Every time I turned around they were working on something for me. It was beyond sweet.

Banana Split Snack

When my kids get home from school, they are usually so hungry. But the only thing they want to eat is candy or sweets. This is our compromise. They gobble it up and feel like it is a major treat.

I take a banana cut it in half, then cut it in half lengthwise. Each child gets half of a banana. You could definitely use a whole banana, but this seems to work for them. Then I put a scoop of greek yogurt on top of the banana. Our favorite is Chobani. The kids like the honey banana and the strawberry flavors. I sprinkle wheat germ on top along with a tiny bit of chocolate syrup and a cherry. You could also used chopped nuts or peanut butter. The options are endless.

Mmmm. Now I feel like I need a snack.

Race Weekend

Last weekend was all about running. Harper ran in the ING Kids Rock Marathon on Friday night. She has been running in gym and after school for a couple of months now. She ran her final lap right outside LP Field.

She ran by so fast I pretty much missed her. This is right before the finish line. She is on the other side of the girl in blue.

I am so proud of her. Eventhough she really did not enjoy the training, she loved the race. She said she is definitely doing it again next year.

Just Call Me The Bag Lady

I was feeling the need for a new springy purse. Since I knew I wouldn't have time to work on the quilt this week, I decided to make myself a purse. Harper asked me what I was making and when I told her a purse she said, "you are always making yourself a purse."

I used the 241 Tote pattern by Noodlehead. I really like how it turned out. The side pockets aren't deep enough for a water bottle, but they are perfect for a set of car keys. We will see if it gets as much use as my Lickety Split bag.

I finally received my walking foot and did a little practicing this weekend. I think it is going to work like a charm. Now I just need to find the courage to conquer the quilt.

Happy Crafty Tuesday everyone!!

52 Weeks of Me- Week 18

I did not stick with the theme this week. I snapped this shot really quick once I got home from the half marathon this weekend. At this point, my ice bath was calling my name. I just didn't have much time or energy to get much better than this.

The race went better than expected considering I did not really train at all. My hip is sore (actually my whole lower half is pretty sore), but doesn't hurt too badly. At least I can walk : )

I am not sure I am ready to sign up for another one quite yet, but we will see how I feel in a couple of months.

Hello there

I am just checking in since I have been a very bad blogger lately. I have not done any crafting or sewing since last week. Instead I cleaned out the kids closets, which gobbled up my sewing time. So there has been no progress on Harper's quilt. I did order a walking foot for my sewing machine to help with the quilting. Now I just need to do some practicing.

The half marathon is this weekend. Although I have not really trained at all, I am still going to do the race. There is no way I can run the whole thing, so I am just going to go out there and do my best. I am trying to let go of any time goals I had and just enjoy the race.

Since I can't have a post without photos, here are a few from this weekend. I only took a few. I think my camera might be lonely because she has not seen a whole lot of action lately.

The kids easter egg huntin' with their cousins.

Our new friend that is living in our yard. He actually let the kids get so close to him that they were able to touch him.
